Hi I was in Ajaccio at the Opposition's gig in April 1983. What a wonderful evening. A great souvenir. Until there was this famous false bomb threat.... Fortunately, it was a bad joke ...

Opposition is like a rare jewel to me. I discovered them around 1981 when Breaking the Silence was released, thanks to a small note in a french rock newspaper. At that time, I played the drums in a band much influenced by The Cure, U2 and that type of "post-punk" or "cold-wave" music like they wrote in newspaper. My band listened carefully to the Opposition and even had fun rehearsing on covers (Breaking the silence, In the Heart...). Opposition sounded completely amazing, new and clean. Marcus bass pedal was so great. Parallely, I was an occasional DJ with one of my friends for a french radio in Bordeaux and we used to play Opposition records. Hearing about the french Intimacy tour, we contacted the french management (Marc Cedat) and after lots of calls and insistance, we had the agreement to meet the group backstage in Toulouse to record an interview. The concert in Toulouse was great and when we joined backstage, the whole staff was celebrating Mark's birthday with a cake. We were kindly invited, and then recorded interviews of Mark and Ralph. I think I might still have the tape of the interview somewhere. In the following years it's been a bit hard to find their music as it wasn't massively distributed. I'm very glad to have found this web site !

i first heard SO back in the spring of 1988 and thought "are you sure" was an incredible song and a great video. i think it had to be one of the 20 best all-time songs for the entire 1980s. sadly it wasn't too long after SO's top 40 hit got aired that music changed for the worse and never got better. the single "are you sure" was played on MTV and i heard the song only on a lesser known top 40 pop rock radio station which is now defunct in Ohio but and i never bought the cassette single because i don't think any of the records stores carried it and i didn't try to look for cassette singles back then. i finally got the entire cd on Amazon about 1-2 years ago(i bought about 4 copies) and liked the music and the sounds of SO's 1988 release and found out through the internet that SO was formerly called the opposition and i heard a few opposition songs on the new wave classics(1977-1986) station that is on the Live365 internet radio service and i liked the sound of the opposition too. "he leaves plastic on the car seat" what was "are you sure" about? i wish the opposition cds were for sale at amazon too but i guess i'll have to start buying downloaded music like the 18 year olds do eventually. SO had an MTV video so i don't know why that video is not on youtube. if look look at the presidential primary election, hillary clinton won more votes and had tons of support but the media and all the people in power did everything to push her out in order for obama to succeed. i think the same thing happened to music in america where around 1991 everyone was pushed out to make room for hip hop, rap, and dumb-downed grunge rock so it could succeed at all costs and at the expense of better music and artists.
