THE OPPOSITION ANNOUNCE NEW SINGLE AND TOUR DATES (1985) On 24th June The Opposition release their long-awaited single, '5 Minutes' on Charisma/Virgin Records. The song was written by Mark Long and The Opposition, and produced and engineered by John Porter (of The Smiths' fame) and Kenny Jones, whose recent production credit includes Billy Bragg's 'Between The Wars'.. The 'B' side of the 7" will feature 'Sand And Glue', while the 12" will include an extended version of '5 Minutes', 'Sand And Glue' and a bonus track, 'I Became A New Man'. A video of '5 Minutes' has recently been directed by noted filmmaker Steve Roberts whose credits include 'Sir Henry At Rawlinson's End' and the 'Max Headroom' series on Channel 4. On 22nd June The Opposition will be featured on Radio One's 'In Concert'. The show will include their live version of '5 Minutes' as well as old favourites taken from their previous Charisma LPs, and new material which will appear on their forthcoming album. The band will also be featured in session en the Andy Peebles Show later in the month. In addition. The Opposition have just been confirmed as the support group for the New Model Army tour. For this tour, the three members of The Opposition - Mark Long on vocals and guitar, Marcus Bell on bass and keyboards and Ralph Hall on drums, will be joined by ex-Comsat Angels guitarist Paul Robertson. The band met Paul last year during the taping of an 'In Concert' show and were knocked out by his individual style.
